From Runway to Renoir

Back in August of 2009, Green Start President and CEO, Kevin Davies, found himself discussing his idea for a recycling business with the curiously intrigued stranger seated beside him on a post-vacation plane ride. As it would turn out, that stranger was Tony Arevalo, Executive Director of the Chateau Renoir, the elegant retirement residence located in SW Calgary. And, as it would also turn out, that business concept discussed by Kevin - channelling a community movement to create sustainable change - would soon become Green Start. Some people say you create your own luck; some people say opportunity is what you make of it; what we know for sure is that the discussion with Tony that day was the lucky and opportune turning point in our history. Kevin left that plane inspired, and, driven by that conversation, took his idea for a business from the door-to-door research phase, and turned it into the dynamic operation that Green Start is today.

With this great piece of history in mind, we're delighted to announce a new service relationship with the Chateau Renoir. On December 1 2010, Green Start implemented a no-sort recycling program created specifically to meet the Renoir’s waste diversion needs and further enhance the service-oriented facility's already stellar image.

The retirement facility community is a fantastic - and under-serviced - sector, eager to adopt simple green initiatives that enable progress. We are proud and excited to welcome those at the Chateau Renoir to our Green Start community, and we thank the great people at the Renoir - not in the least, Tony - for giving us the opportunity to turn idea into action.
